Overview

The Delphix YugabyteDB virtualization solution consists of the Delphix Continuous Data Engine and the Connector for YugabyteDB, which must be uploaded and installed into the Engine. This solution ingests source data using a staging architecture, which logically replicates the production YugabyteDB database from the source environment into a staging environment. The Delphix Continuous Data Engine captures the persistent storage layer of the staging database, enabling the creation of virtualized copies in target environments for development, testing, or analytics purposes.

The YugabyteDB connector supports Staging Pull and Seed ingestion methods.

Staging Pull

Staging Pull allows Delphix to orchestrate backup discovery and restore operations through Yugabyte Anywhere (YBA) on the staging side. The Yugabyte connector v2026.0.0.5 Preview supports the following capabilities:

  • REST-based backup orchestration through YBA.

  • Restoration of the most recent completed full backup.

  • Restoration of the most recent completed incremental backup in the same backup schedule. Yugabyte Anywhere resolves the full and incremental backup chain.

  • Backups stored in AWS S3 or Azure Blob Storage. NFS backup storage is not supported.

  • Restore of YSQL databases only. Tablespaces are not restored.

  • Multi-node universe restore into a staging environment.

Each dSource snapshot reflects the latest completed backup at the time of synchronization. You cannot select a specific incremental backup or restore to a point in time. If no incremental backup is available, the connector restores the full backup.

Seed

With Seed, Delphix creates an empty YugabyteDB universe on the staging host. You load your data into that universe.

The first dSource snapshot is not usable because it contains an empty YugabyteDB universe. Load data into the universe before you use a snapshot to provision a VDB.

Security

For dSources, TLS modes are Disabled, YBA Self-Signed (Auto), Customer Self-Signed, and CA-Signed. For VDBs, TLS modes are Disabled, Customer Self-Signed, and CA-Signed. Place the required certificates on the hosts before linking or provisioning.

VDBs without Yugabyte Anywhere

The connector provisions and manages VDBs directly on target hosts. VDB provisioning does not use Yugabyte Anywhere.

Limitations of the YugabyteDB Solution

The Delphix Continuous Data Engine and the YugabyteDB connector should not be considered a replacement for the backup and recovery of your source instances and databases. The Delphix Continuous Data Engine solution is intended for different purposes, primarily to create non-production database copies.

Each VDB runs as its own YugabyteDB cluster. Ensure that its ports do not conflict with other YugabyteDB instances on the target host.

Support

The YugabyteDB connector is licensed under the standard Delphix License Agreement. The solution is supported by Delphix Technical Support. For assistance, bug reports, or feature requests, please use the Delphix Support or Delphix Community portals.
