MongoDB version compatibility across Delphix environments

  • By default config servers would be managed by atlas, MongoDB Atlas v8.0 and onwards. Users must go to Additional Settings > More Configuration Options > Atlas Managed Configuration Servers and toggle off the setting.

  • For extendedcluster, nonshardedsource, nonshardedstagingpush, shardedsource, shardedstagingpush, and stagingpush ingestion types, MongoDB binaries in all the source and staging environments must be of the same version for data ingestion.

  • For offlinemongodump and onlinemongodump ingestion types:

  • MongoDB binaries in target environments must be of the same version as the parent snapshot when provisioning and refreshing VDBs.

    • In short, ingestion through provision or refresh workflow needs: source_version <= staging_version = target_version.

    • After upgrading a source database and its staging database to a new version (for example from MongoDB 6 to 7), existing VDBs can remain at their current version if required or desired. If the VDBs stay on their existing older version (for example, MongoDB 6), they cannot be refreshed from any snapshots on their parent that are of a newer version.

    • Click on the parent VDB or dSource snapshot’s three dots to view its metadata and confirm its MongoDB version (see image).
