Symptom
After completing a Single Database Ingestion (SDI) workflow, the VDB is missing one or more tables and roles or permissions.
The VDB is an exact copy of the dSource. If tables are missing in the VDB, they are also missing in the dSource — the problem originates at the dSource level during ingestion. The VDB is simply where end users first notice the issue.
Cause
The root cause is in the dSource, not the VDB. During the SDI, Delphix performs a best-effort restore operation to build the dSource. Errors encountered during this restore are suppressed by default. This behavior was intentionally designed to accommodate PaaS platforms (such as Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Amazon RDS, etc.) where certain PostgreSQL extensions are only available on the platform and cannot be restored on a self-managed staging host.
If an extension or object referenced in the backup is unavailable on the staging host, the restore continues silently — the dSource is created with missing objects. Because the VDB is provisioned as an exact copy of the dSource, the missing tables propagate to every VDB provisioned from it.
Workaround
Because the issue originates in the dSource, correcting missing extensions, permissions or privileges, or tables must be done at the dSource level — provisioning a new VDB from the same dSource will reproduce the same gaps.
-
Check the connector logs on the staging environment for suppressed errors.
-
Resolve any errors by ensuring requisite PostgresSQL Extensions are installed.
-
Re-ingest the dSource, by taking a new snapshot using the re-sync option.
-
Provision or refresh VDB from the new snapshot.
Connector Log Location
Connector logs are available under the toolkit directory on the remote staging or target environment:
<toolkit_path>/Delphix_COMMON*host/plugin/postgres-vsdk_12c9a11f-fab6-4792-a5da-49d726c004df/<environment_user>_logs/delphix_postgres_debug.log
Replace:
-
<toolkit_path>— the path to the Delphix toolkit directory on the remote host. -
<environment_user>— the OS user configured for the Delphix environment.
Review this log for any ERROR or WARNING entries that occurred during the restore phase to determine which objects could not be restored and why.
