When provisioning a vPDB, Delphix creates a temporary CDB instance (also referred to as an Auxiliary CDB) to recover the parent PDB datafiles. On Oracle Exadata systems, Delphix uses specific large page setting for this Auxiliary CDB based on the target database version to be compliant with Oracle Database DBRU 19.27+ and DBRU 23.8+.

This behavior applies only when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The target environment is an Oracle Exadata system

  • The target database version is:

    • Oracle Database 19c DBRU 19.27 or higher, or

    • Oracle Database 23c DBRU 23.8 or higher

For the database versions listed above, Delphix automatically sets the following initialization parameter for the Auxiliary CDB:

use_large_pages=ONLY

This parameter cannot be overridden during the vPDB provisioning workflow on supported Exadata targets.

Customers must ensure that sufficient HugePages (large pages) are available on the target Exadata system to satisfy the memory requirements of the Auxiliary CDB.

If adequate HugePages are not available, the auxiliary CDB startup will fail, failing the vPDB provisioning operation.
