Delphix creates a staging database using user provided source backup from a backup staging directory.

In order to ensure that the staging database remains in-sync with the source database, User can provide additional differential backups from the source database to the staging database.

Prerequisites

Staging environment must be added to Delphix.

  • A Source Config must be created on the staging environment-MSSQL Linux repository.

  • A MSSQL Linux with the same version as the source database must be installed in the Staging environment.

It may take up to 5 minutes after successful dSource creation for the status to show as Active.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DCT.

  2. Add a source config against the discovered staging or target MSSQL Linux environment . For more information, read Create a source configuration for Connectors in DCT,

  3. Go to Data>dSources tab and click +dSource.

  4. On the Select Data Source page, select the MSSQL Linux dSource.

  5. Once the MSSQL Linux dSource is selected, the following configuration settings will appear.

  6. Enter all required details for dSource creation:

    1. MSSQL user

    2. MSSQL Staging user with sysadmin role.

    3. MSSQL user password

    4. Password of the provided user.

    5. Backup file location

    6. Path to backup files used to update the dSource located on the staging host.

    7. Backup filename pattern

    8. Pattern used to identify backup files (eg. *.bak).

    9. Staging Database Mount Path (on Staging Host)

    10. This is the mount directory for Delphix on the staging host. This location should be unique and empty.

    11. Upgrade: Use this option if the source database is an older but compatible version.

  7. On dSource Configuration page, select the dataset group where the dSource will be placed and click Next.

  8. On the Data Management page, select the staging environment and the environment user and click Next.

The combination of both parameters Backup file location and Backup filename pattern should list only the necessary backup file(s) to be used for the SnapSync operation.  Ensure the Resynchronize dSource option is marked.
  9. On the Policies page, select the Snapsync and Retention policies for the dSource and click Next.

  10. On the Hooks page, add any pre-sync and (or) post-sync hooks as required and click Next.

  11. Review the dSource configuration on the Summary screen and Submit. The Linking process begins.

Once the dSource creation is successful, the Timeflow tab should show the initial snapshot.
