After a Couchbase dSource is linked, Data Control Tower (DCT) provides a full set of lifecycle management operations. Use these operations to manage data ingestion, snapshots, and dSource availability.

Available dSource operations

  • Create Snapshot – Capture current state for VDB provisioning

  • Enable / Disable – Control active ingestion

  • Start / Stop – Control staging cluster availability

  • Rename – Change dSource display name

  • Delete – Permanently remove dSource (if no dependent VDBs)

Create a Couchbase dSource snapshot

Snapshots capture the current state of a dSource including cluster state and bucket data. Snapshots serve as provision points for virtual database creation or recovery operations.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Data > Data Management > dSources.

  2. Select a dSource, then select View.

  3. Select Actions > Create Snapshot.

  4. Choose whether to refresh the dSource before taking the snapshot.

  5. Review the summary and select Submit.

Result

A snapshot is created and becomes available as a provision point for VDB creation. The snapshot preserves cluster state and bucket data from the moment it was captured.

Disable and enable Couchbase dSources

Disabling a dSource stops active monitoring and snapshot policies without deleting the data. Enabling a dSource resumes normal operations and ingestion.

Before you begin

  • Ensure no active refresh or resync operations are running

Steps

  1. Navigate to Data > Data Management > dSources.

  2. Select a dSource, then select View.

  3. To disable: Select Actions > Disable, then confirm.

  4. To enable: Select Actions > Enable, then confirm.

Result

The dSource is disabled or enabled as requested. When disabled, the staging cluster continues running but ingestion stops. When enabled, ingestion resumes and policies are re-applied.

Start and stop Couchbase dSources

Starting and stopping a dSource controls whether the staging Couchbase cluster is running. Use this to manage resource usage or perform maintenance.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Data > Data Management > dSources.

  2. Select a dSource, then select View.

  3. To stop: Select Actions > Stop, then confirm.

  4. To start: Select Actions > Start, then confirm.

Result

The staging cluster is stopped or started as requested. When stopped, the cluster is offline but data and configuration are preserved.

Rename a Couchbase dSource

Change the dSource display name without affecting configuration or data.

Steps

  1. Navigate to Data > Data Management > dSources.

  2. Select a dSource, then select View.

  3. Select Actions > Rename.

  4. Enter the new name and select Submit.

Result

The dSource display name is updated. All references to the dSource in DCT are updated automatically.

Delete a Couchbase dSource

Deleting a dSource permanently removes it and all associated snapshots from DCT and the Continuous Data Engine. This operation cannot be undone.

Before you begin

  • Ensure no virtual databases (VDBs) are provisioned from this dSource

  • If dependent VDBs exist, delete them first

Steps

  1. Navigate to Data > Data Management > dSources.

  2. Select a dSource, then select View.

  3. Select Actions > Delete.

  4. In the confirmation dialog, optionally select Force Delete to remove all associated data including mount paths and files.

  5. Select Delete to confirm.

Result

The dSource is deleted from DCT. The staging cluster and all associated snapshots are removed.

Troubleshooting

If dSource operations fail or show unexpected behavior:

  • Check Couchbase instance logs at /opt/couchbase/var/lib/couchbase/logs on staging host

  • Verify SSH connectivity to staging environment

  • Confirm staging cluster is running and accessible on configured port (default 8091)

  • Review Continuous Data Engine logs for detailed error messages
