Couchbase environments represent host‑level infrastructure connections used for discovery, ingestion, and provisioning.

Prerequisites

Before adding a Couchbase environment, ensure the host meets these requirements:

  • expect utility installed – Required for secure credential handling. Verify with: which expect

  • Couchbase binaries installed – At /opt/couchbase (or set $COUCHBASE_PATH environment variable)

  • Couchbase version consistency – Staging and target hosts must have identical Couchbase version as source

  • OS user configuration – Environment OS user must be in couchbase OS group

  • Sudo privileges – Required for mount/umount operations. Ensure user has passwordless sudo for: /bin/mount, /bin/umount, /bin/mkdir, /bin/rmdir

  • Toolkit path – Directory with at least 2GB free space (no spaces in path)

  • Mount path – Empty directory on the host for NFS mounts (no space requirements)

  • Network connectivity – SSH (port 22), Couchbase management (port 8091), data/KV (port 11210), and NFS ports (111, 2049, 1110, 54043-54045)

Procedure

  1. Log in to DCT.

  2. Go to Data > Infrastructure connections.
  3. Select Add environment.
  4. Enter:

    1. Connection name

    2. Associated Continuous Data Engine

  5. Configure:

    1. Host OS: Unix/Linux

    2. Server Type: Standalone

  6. Enter host details:

    1. Hostname or IP address

    2. SSH port (default 22)

  7. Configure login:

    1. Username/password

    2. Public key

    3. Password vault

  8. Specify Toolkit Path (no spaces, sufficient storage)

  9. Click Validate > Submit

The environment is added and Couchbase installations are discovered. The Continuous Data Engine validates SSH access to the staging host and verifies Couchbase binaries availability.

Viewing Couchbase environments in DCT

After an environment is added and discovered, you can view its details in DCT:

  1. Navigate to Data > Data Infrastructure > Environments.
  2. Select the environment name to view its configuration and discovery status.

From the connection detail page, you can manage encryption, environment users, notes, and tags.
