The dataset details page provides an overview of a dataset’s status and configuration, and allows you to review and manage tables, generators, and relationships.
You can open the dataset details page by clicking View next to the dataset name on the Datasets page.
The page is organized into two tabs: Overview and Tables.
Overview tab
The Overview tab presents a summary of the dataset’s current state and key configuration information.
Status summary
At the top of the tab, summary cards display high‑level information about the dataset:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Status | Indicates whether the dataset is active. |
| Tables | The total number of tables included in the dataset. |
| Total Fields | The total number of fields across all tables in the dataset. |
| Active Jobs | The number of jobs currently running against the dataset |
Dataset information
Below the summary cards, the Overview tab displays the following sections:
-
Applications - Displays the application associated with the dataset and its status. Click the application name to navigate to the application details page.
-
Description - Displays the dataset description. Click Edit to update the description.
-
Recent Jobs - Lists recent jobs run against the dataset and their execution status.
-
Tags - Displays key‑value tags assigned to the dataset. Click Edit to add or update tags.
Jobs view
The Jobs view lists dataset jobs and their execution status so you can monitor data-generation activity.
If a data-generation execution is interrupted by a syngen-compute restart, the execution is no longer left in a running state. The job moves to an error state and displays the failure details.
Tables tab
The Tables tab opens the Configure Tables & Generators view. This view allows you to review the tables included in the dataset, inspect generator assignments, and manage table relationships.
Tables panel
The Tables panel on the left lists all tables included in the dataset, grouped by connector.
-
Use the Search field to filter tables by name.
-
Click a table to view its details in the main panel.
-
Click + Table to add additional tables to the dataset. Foreign key relationships between selected tables are automatically detected and preserved.
The row count indicator in the upper‑right corner shows the default number of rows to generate.
Click the edit icon to modify this value.
Table details
When a table is selected, the following tabs are available:
Fields
The Fields tab lists all fields in the table and shows:
-
The generator assigned to each field
-
A preview of generated values
-
Field length, precision, and scale in the Display Type column. Hover over the values to view the raw metadata.
Use the filter controls at the top of the Field and Generator columns to narrow the list.
To review or modify a generator assignment:
-
Click the > icon next to a field to expand its configuration panel.
-
Review the assigned generator and its current configuration.
-
To assign a different generator, select a generator from the available options.
-
To modify the generator settings, click Configure and update the required parameters.
-
Click Save for this Field to save your changes.
Synthetic Data automatically assigns generators to fields using a three-layer discovery cascade based on discovered metadata and profiling results. Each field displays an Assignment Method column that shows how the assignment was made: Auto Discovery, Auto Discovery Custom, User Override, User Custom, Deep Search, or LLM Assigned. For details about each assignment method and how the discovery process works, see Synthetic Data discovery methods. You can override any assignment and customize its configuration to meet your testing requirements.
Relationships
The Relationships tab displays parent and child relationships for the selected table:
When a connector contains multiple schemas, tables are grouped and labeled by connector and schema so that tables from different schemas remain distinguishable. Relationship cards and dialogs include the related table name in addition to the connector and schema.
-
Parent tables — Tables referenced by the selected table
-
Child tables — Tables that reference the selected table
After creating the dataset, review the generator assignments for each field to ensure they align with your testing requirements. Synthetic Data automatically assigns default generators based on discovered metadata and profiling results.
If adjustments are needed, expand a field to view its generator configuration, select a different generator, and customize its settings as required.
Each relationship displays:
-
The related table
-
Cardinality
-
Join key
Use the action icons to edit a relationship or navigate to the related table. Composite foreign-key relationships are generated as coordinated multi-column values so that they resolve to valid parent rows. The relationship cardinality affects the available combinations for composite junction tables.
When a field-generator assignment is invalid, fields with valid assignments can still produce partial output, while the invalid field is reported with its own error.
Configure correlated fields
You can group multiple fields from the same table under one generator so the fields are generated together as a correlated value. Cross-table correlated generation is not supported.
-
Open the dataset and click the Tables tab.
-
Select the table that contains the fields to group.
-
Select the fields to include in the generator group.
-
Assign a multi-output generator and bind its output keys to the selected fields.
-
Save the generator assignment group.
One generator function runs once per row for the complete group, rather than once for each field. A generator can produce more output keys than are currently bound to fields; unbound output keys are not written to the dataset.
Add a relationship
-
Click Add Relationship to define a new relationship.
-
In the Add Relationship dialog, specify:
-
From Table - Select the source table for the relationship.
-
From Field - Select the field in the source table to join on.
-
To Table - Select the target table for the relationship.
-
To Field - Select the field in the target table to join on.
-
Relationship Name - Enter a name for the relationship.
-
Cardinality - Enter the number of related records each source record should have. The default value is 1.
-
Is Primary- Select this checkbox to mark the relationship as the primary relationship.
The system automatically assigns a reference generator to the child field involved in the relationship
-
-
Click + Add Relationship to save, or Cancel to discard.
