Overview

This topic describes the details page for PaaS Instances and PaaS DBs in DCT. Both object types provide tabbed views that surface operational information, timeline history, and available actions.

Navigating to PaaS Instances and DBs

PaaS Instances and PaaS DBs can be accessed from the following locations in DCT:

  • Home > Instances > PaaS tab: Lists all discovered PaaS Instances.

  • Data > PaaS DBs: Lists all discovered and managed PaaS DBs. Click View on any item to open its details page.

  • Home > Cloud Accounts: Open a Cloud Account, then select the PaaS Instances or PaaS DBs tab. Click View on any item.

  • Home > Data Library: Filter by Type = PaaS Instance or PaaS DB. Click the item name or View.

PaaS Instance details page

The PaaS Instance details page provides instance-level information and operations. The tabs available on this page vary by platform based on the capabilities supported by the cloud provider and PaaS Connector:

Overview tab

  • General information: instance name, ID, platform and version, current status (Running / Stopped / Deprovisioned), region, availability zone, and DCT Cloud Account.

  • Connection details: JDBC URL for direct database connectivity (with a copy button).

  • Environment details: cloud provider, instance type, and compute configuration.

  • Tags: DCT tags and cloud tags applied to the instance.

Timeline tab

  • Automated backups: Periodic snapshots taken by AWS as part of automated backup management.

  • Rolling backup window: The continuous point-in-time recovery window. The earliest available point and the latest restorable time are shown.

  • Snapshots: Point-in-time captures initiated by DCT.

  • Bookmarks: Named references created by users, overlaid on the timeline.

  • Operations: Provision, Refresh, and other actions performed on this instance, shown with timestamps.

From the Timeline tab, selecting any point, snapshot, or bookmark opens a context menu with available actions: Provision, Refresh, Create Bookmark, and Delete.

Bookmarks tab

  • Bookmarks created on this instance by any user with access.

  • Bookmarks shared from other instances within the same region (if visibility is set to Public).

For each bookmark, the table shows the name, creation date, expiration date, data timestamp, visibility (Public or Private), source instance, and tags.

Bookmarks listed in this tab can be used as a refresh target — select the bookmark and choose Refresh to restore the instance to that point.

Access tab

The Access tab lists all DCT accounts that have been granted access to manage this PaaS Instance. This tab is common to all DCT-managed objects and provides a centralized view of access control for the instance.

PaaS DB details page

The PaaS DB details page is the primary interface for day-to-day Continuous Data for PaaS operations.

Overview tab

  • General information: database name, ID, platform and version, current status, dataset size, and parent instance.

  • Connection details: JDBC URL with a copy button.

  • Configuration details: provisioning configuration and cloud-specific settings.

  • Environment details: Cloud Account, region, parent PaaS Instance, and instance status.

  • Tags: DCT tags and cloud tags.

Status values for PaaS DBs include: Running, Stopped, Deprovisioned (compute released but timeline preserved), and Provisioning.

Timeline tab

  • Automated backups: Backups created by the cloud provider's managed backup service.

  • Rolling backup window: The earliest and latest restorable point-in-time from the cloud provider's continuous backup.

  • Snapshots: Point-in-time captures initiated by DCT.

  • Bookmarks: Named, curated references to validated points in time, overlaid on the timeline.

  • Operations: Provision, Refresh, Deprovision, and other actions with timestamps.

Timeline history is fully preserved when a PaaS DB is deprovisioned. The timeline remains visible and all points remain available for reprovisioning after the database is stopped.

The rolling backup window represents the continuous point-in-time recovery period maintained by the cloud provider. Retention periods vary by platform; refer to your cloud provider’s documentation for the supported range and default. All points within the rolling window are available for restore.

Points outside the rolling window can be preserved by refreshing to the desired point-in-time, creating a snapshot or bookmark, and then optionally refreshing back to a more recent point.

Access tab

The Access tab lists all DCT accounts that have been granted access to manage this PaaS DB. This tab is common to all DCT-managed objects and provides a centralized view of access control for the database.

Actions

Most operations on a PaaS Instance or PaaS DB are available from the Actions dropdown in the top right of the details page. Refresh is also available as a dedicated button. Available actions depend on the current status and whether the object is DCT-managed.

  • Refresh: Restore the database to a selected point in time. Available as a dedicated button and in the Actions dropdown.

  • Provision Instance/DB: Create a new PaaS Instance or PaaS DB from a backup, snapshot, or bookmark.

  • Create Bookmark: Mark a specific point in time as a named, shareable reference.

  • Create Snapshot: Initiate a point-in-time snapshot of the current database state.

  • Deprovision: Stop the database and release cloud compute resources while preserving the timeline.

  • Reprovision: Restore a deprovisioned database to a selected point in time.

  • Start: Start a stopped PaaS Instance.

  • Stop: Stop a running PaaS Instance without releasing compute resources.

  • Delete: Remove the database from DCT and optionally from the cloud provider.

For AWS RDS, Start and Stop are only available on DCT-managed instances. For Azure SQL Managed Instance, Start and Stop are also available on discovered (unmanaged) instances, since the Managed Instance serves as a container for individual databases and must be running for database-level operations to succeed.
