Overview
The Provision operation creates a new PaaS Instance or PaaS DB from an existing source. The new database is provisioned from a selected point in time — a snapshot, automated backup, or bookmark — and becomes a DCT-managed PaaS DB.
Provision creates a new database. To restore an existing database to a different point in time, use Refresh instead.
Prerequisites
-
At least one Cloud Account must be configured and discovery must have completed.
-
A source PaaS Instance or PaaS DB must exist with backup history or a snapshot on its timeline.
-
The target Cloud Account must have sufficient permissions to create the target database type.
Process
-
Navigate to the source PaaS Instance or PaaS DB details page.
-
Select Actions > Provision Instance or Provision DB from the top-right dropdown.
-
Complete the provisioning wizard as described below.
Select target Cloud Account
Select the Cloud Account where the new database will be created. This can be the same account as the source (for a golden copy in the production account) or a different account (for a non-production environment).
All Cloud Accounts available for selection are scoped to the same region as the source. Cross-region provisioning is not supported.
Name, instance, and point-in-time
-
Name: The display name for the new database or instance within DCT and the cloud provider.
-
Instance selection (platform-dependent): Some platforms require selecting a target instance to deploy the database to. If this option appears, select the appropriate instance from the list. Multiple databases may be deployed to the same instance.
-
Point-in-time selection: Choose the source point from the following options:
-
Latest snapshot: The most recent snapshot available on the source timeline.
-
Latest point-in-time: The most recent point available in the rolling automated backup window (typically within the last few minutes).
-
Specific snapshot: Select from a list of available snapshots on the source timeline.
-
Specific bookmark: Select from a list of available bookmarks. This option is used when provisioning downstream databases from a validated, masked golden copy.
-
Additional configuration
This step displays additional configuration options. The provisioned database inherits configuration from the source instance by default (compute size, storage, network settings, and tags). Individual configuration values can be overridden at this step.
Review and submit
Review all selections. Select Provision to submit. The new database will appear in the Cloud Account PaaS DBs tab with a status of Provisioning. Monitor the Operations tab on the details page to track progress; the status will transition to Running when provisioning is complete.
After provisioning
The newly provisioned database is a DCT-managed PaaS DB. It supports the full set of self-service operations: Refresh, Bookmark, Deprovision, Reprovision, and Delete.
The provisioned database's timeline begins at the provisioning point and grows forward as automated backups continue.
