Use this task to update the rule set by retrieving the latest table and column metadata from the associated connector.
Refreshing a rule set ensures that any changes in the source database such as newly added tables, removed tables, or updated columns are reflected in the rule set.
If you changed the Document Store Type for a column, refresh the rule set before running a masking job. This updates the column metadata that DCT uses to validate and execute document-store masking.
Refresh Drops Tables
The Refresh Drops Tables option controls how tables that have been removed from the source database are handled during the refresh.
-
Unchecked (default): Tables are not removed from the Rule Set even if they no longer exist in the source database associated with the connector.
-
Checked: Tables that have been dropped or deleted from the source database are also removed from the Rule Set. This keeps the Rule Set synchronized with the current structure of the source database.
Steps
-
In the left navigation pane, click Compliance > Rule Sets.
-
Click View next to the rule set you want to refresh.
-
Click Actions > Refresh.
-
In the confirmation dialog, configure Refresh Drops Tables if needed.
-
Click Refresh.
Troubleshooting
If a masking job fails on a document-store column with a message indicating that the rule set must be refreshed before running the job, refresh the rule set and then rerun the job. This usually means the column metadata is stale after a document store type change.
Refresh before CSV merge import
Before using Import CSV to update an existing rule set, refresh the rule set so its table and column structure matches the source database. CSV import updates writable values on existing tables and columns; it does not create or delete them.
Refreshing after a merge import does not overwrite the algorithm assignments imported from the CSV.
Important: Refreshing before the import ensures that the rule set matches the live schema. This reduces the risk of skipped updates or mismatched algorithm assignments when the CSV updates an older rule set.
