After an uncontrolled failover, SQL Server environments require cleanup of stale mounts, staging databases, and VDB artifacts before objects can be re-enabled through DCT. Complete the following procedures in order.
Enable environments and dSources
-
In DCT, navigate to Home > Infrastructure Connections. Enable the proxy (staging) environments first, then the source environments.
-
Navigate to Data > Data Management > dSources. Enable dSources on the target engine.
-
On the staging host, delete the stale staging database mounts from the connector directories. An example directory: C:\ProgramFiles\Delphix\DelphixConnector\<Old Engine ID >-staging-<X> where X is an arbitrary id representing the staging database.
-
Delete the staging database from the SQL instance on the proxy host. The naming convention is: <Old Engine ID>-staging-<X> where X is an arbitrary id representing the staging database.
Enable VDBs on the standalone host
-
Delete the VDB directories stale mounts from: C:\ProgramFiles\Delphix\DelphixConnector\\<Old Engine id>-vdb-<X> where X is an arbitrary id representing the virtual database.
-
From the SQL instance delete VDB databases that are in recovery pending state.
-
In DCT, navigate to Data > Data Management > VDBs and enable VDBs. New mounts will be created and a new engine ID will be reflected on those mounts.
Enable VDBs on failover cluster as target
-
Once the source engine is powered down, log in to the Failover Cluster Manager on the cluster host.
-
Go to Windows Administrative Tools and select Failover Cluster Manager.
-
In the left pane, navigate to Roles. The failover cluster will show services in a degraded state.
-
Navigate to the Storage section and select Disks. The dlpx-XXXXXXXXX mounts attached to the cluster disk will be in offline states. The number of offline mounts corresponds to the total number of VDBs provisioned to this cluster.
-
Right-click on each dlpx mount and select Remove from SQL Server (Instance Name).
- Click Yes to confirm. The Assigned To column will show Available Storage.
-
Right-click on the dlpx mount and click Remove.
-
The dlpx mount will be deleted. Repeat the same process for all remaining dlpx mounts assigned to Available Storage.
-
Under Roles, the SQL Server service will be in a Failed state. Right-click on the service and click Stop Role.
-
Once the stop completes, right-click on the SQL cluster service and click Start Role.
-
Verify the SQL cluster service is online. Under the Resources tab, confirm that Storage, Server Name, Other Resources, and Roles all show Online status. Ensure that Disks and Nodes are also online.
-
Confirm that both nodes are in a healthy state.
