Use this task to create an NFS or CIFS mount using the DCT API. These mounts are used with VM-based compliance engines to access remote file systems.

DCT does not currently provide a UI to create mounts. You must use the Swagger API interface or a REST client to create mounts.

Prerequisites

  • You have access to a REST client or Swagger interface.

  • You have the hostname and path of the remote file system you want to mount.

Steps

  1. Open the DCT Swagger API interface or your REST client.

  2. Navigate to the mount creation endpoint: POST /dct/v3/mount-filesystem.

  3. Provide the following fields in the request body:

    • name: A unique name for the mount (e.g., "Demo Mount One").

    • hostname: The hostname or IP address of the remote server.

    • path: The path to read from on the remote server.

    • type: The mount protocol. Select one of:

      • NFS4 - NFS version 4

      • NFS3 - NFS version 3

      • CIFS - Common Internet File System

    • options (optional): A comma-separated key=value string of additional mount configuration parameters. Valid keys vary by mount type and are passed directly to the underlying mount system.

      For CIFS mounts, credentials are passed in this field using keys such as username and password. DCT supports CIFS mount creation both with and without a password. For passwordless CIFS mount creation, pass only username in the options string.

      The password value is extracted and stored encrypted on the server. It is never returned in API responses.
  4. Submit the request.

    The mount is created and available for use with file connectors.

Example

The following example creates an NFS4 mount:

{
  "name": "Demo Mount One",
  "hostname": "ftp.example.com",
  "path": "/data/files",
  "type": "NFS4"
}

The following example creates a CIFS mount:

{
    "mount_name": "cifs-share",
    "host_address": "192.168.1.50",
    "mount_path": "/share/data",
    "type": "CIFS",
    "options": "username=myuser,password=mypassword,domain=CORP,vers=2.1"
}
