Applications are the top-level organizational units in Synthetic Data. Each application represents a real-world system (such as a CRM or billing platform) and holds all associated connectors, datasets, and jobs.

Use this task to create a new application in Synthetic Data.

Steps

  1. From the top navigation bar, click Synthetic, then click Applications in the left navigation pane.

  2. Click + Add Application in the upper-right corner. The Add Application wizard opens.

  3. On the Basic Information page, provide the following details:

    1. Name: Enter a unique name for the application. If this field is left blank, the system displays a Name is required validation message.

    2. Description (Optional): Enter a free-text description to help identify the application.

    3. Tags (Optional): Add one or more key-value tags to the application.

      1. Enter a value in the Enter Tag Key field.

      2. Enter the corresponding value in the Enter Tag Value field.

      3. Click + Tag to add the tag.

Repeat these steps to add additional tags.

    4. Locale: Select the locale to use for locale-aware discovery. Select Not set (use global) to use the global Synthetic Data setting.

    5. Industry: Select the industry context to use for industry-specific discovery. Select Not set (use global) to use the global Synthetic Data setting.

    6. Discovery Depth: Select how much source data to analyze during discovery. Deeper discovery modes take longer and can produce higher-fidelity synthetic output.

      • Metadata Only: Analyzes structure and schema information without sampling data.

      • Light Data Sampling: Uses small samples from each table to estimate distinct ratios, skew, and cardinality.

Light Data Sampling enables Data-Based Discovery. The source connector must support data sampling. Metadata Only is the default. Deep Data Sampling is reserved and is not currently supported.
    7. On the Connectors page, you can optionally add a connector for the application:

      1. Click + Create Connector and provide the following details:

        1. Name — Enter a name to identify the connector.

        2. Description (optional) — Enter a description for the connector.

        3. Under Connector Capabilities:

          1. Reference — Selected by default. This connector will be used to analyze source schema for synthetic data generation.

          2. Target — Select this option if the connector will also be used as a destination for generated synthetic data.

      2. Click Next.

      3. On the Connection Details page, configure the database connection details for the connector, including the source type, connection method, authentication settings, and schema information. For detailed instructions, see Add a reference connector.

      4. Click Next.

You can skip this step if you do not want to add a connector at this time and create them later. After the application is created, you can add additional connectors from the Connectors tab on the application details page.
    8. On the Review & Create page, review the application details you entered.

      1. To make changes, click Back.

      2. To create the application, click Submit.
