Version compatibility and support pre-checks

Refer to the Upgrade matrix before upgrading. Review the release notes and version-specific documentation for your source version, target version, and every intermediate version you upgrade through for prerequisites and conditions.

For upgrades from version 6.0.0.0 or later to a compatible version, contacting Delphix Support is not required.

Upgrade images for target versions 6.0.2.0 and later include upgrade pre-checks. Use the latest target-version image because checks may be updated between releases.

Upgrades from version 2025.3.0.* or older to version 2025.4.0.* or newer require an Upgrade and Reboot and VDB downtime.

The Delphix Engine requires you to verify an upgrade before applying it. Each new version can introduce requirements for networking, hypervisor usage, masking algorithms, and Delphix Engine object configuration. Verification checks whether the engine meets these requirements and can detect unexpected states before the upgrade. Read the release notes for the target version to review new requirements.

As soon as the upgrade image is uploaded, a verification job is started. This verification job will use information stored within the uploaded upgrade image to examine the state of the Delphix Engine and make a best effort to validate that applying the upgrade image will succeed. It also will notify the user of any potential problems that require either customer or support intervention.

After taking corrective action, run verification again to confirm that the issues are resolved. Before applying the upgrade, resolve every CRITICAL result and resolve or explicitly ignore each WARNING result. INFORMATIONAL results do not require action.

The verification does a “dry run” of some of the upgrade procedures in order to alert the administrator of potential problems before continuing with the upgrade. It is strongly recommended that you perform this verification a day or two in advance, before your upgrade downtime begins, in order to give yourself time to address any problems flagged by the verification. After addressing the check results, run verification again closer to the upgrade.

The procedure for verifying an upgrade is:

  1. Log in to the Delphix Setup application.

  2. In the Software Version panel, click View.

  3. On the left-hand side, select the version to which you will be upgrading. Details on the version will be displayed on the right.

  4. In the upper-right section of the Details tab, click Verify Upgrade. Verification runs in the background. View its progress in the Action sidebar.

  5. Click Verification Results to view problems found during verification.

  6. Click Verification Steps to view the verification steps in detail.

Understand the verification page

On the Upgrade Images page, select the target version and review its status, OS Version, Minimum OS Version, and Verify Date. Use Verify Date to check when verification last ran. Open the Verification tab to review the following controls and results.

  1. Verification Package Version displays the version of verification checks bundled with the upgrade image.

  2. Verification Results shows the verification outcomes. This option is selected by default and includes the severity, duration, and reason for each result.

  3. Hide Resolved/Ignored hides verification items marked Resolved or Ignored.

  4. Ignore All Warnings ignores all warning items during verification.

  5. Verification Steps shows the verification actions, status, and duration.
