Use this topic to determine whether your environment is supported before you deploy or upgrade a Delphix Continuous Data Engine. If any requirement in this topic is not met, the configuration is not supported.
Validate database and Operating System support
-
Your database and operating system (OS) versions must be listed in the Delphix Support Matrices.
-
If your database (DB) or OS is not listed, it is not supported for virtualization or masking and the guidance in this documentation does not apply.
-
If you require support for an unsupported configuration, contact Delphix Support to request a feature or certification review.
Verify Cloud platform and hypervisor compatibility
Delphix supports deployment on the following hypervisors and cloud platforms:
- Hypervisors: VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM
- Public clouds: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
If your cloud or hardware platform provides native support for VMware or KVM, you can deploy the Delphix Engine as long as you meet VMware and KVM deployment requirements.
Public cloud source and target support rules
Support for public cloud environments depends on how source and target databases are deployed.
-
IaaS source to IaaS target: fully supported.
- PaaS DB Source to IaaS DB Target: supported using
Staging push, with the following conditions:
You are responsible for creating database backups from the PaaS source and storing them in a supported location.
Data is ingested into Delphix through a staging host running a supported OS and database using staging push.
Virtual databases (vDBs) can then be provisioned to an IaaS target.
Both the staging and target environments must comply with Delphix support matrices.
For more information, read the following on Ecosystem Hub:
-
PaaS database source to PaaS database target: not supported.
-
Cloud providers do not expose the credentials required to mount NFS or iSCSI storage on PaaS databases. Because of this limitation, Delphix cannot provision or attach virtual databases directly to PaaS targets.
-
Additional considerations
- Elastic Data engines (object storage) are supported for private S3-compatible storage and multiple public clouds. For provider-specific setup, read AWS object storage setup, Azure object storage setup, GCP object storage setup, OCI object storage setup, or Other S3-compatible object storage setup. To convert an existing block storage engine, read In-place block-to-object storage migration. To move engine state to new infrastructure, read Repave.
- Elastic Data engines can be used alongside any of the supported configurations described above.
- Data replication across environments (on‑premises to cloud,
cloud to on‑premises, or cloud to cloud) is fully supported provided that:
- Both the source and target environments meet the Support matrices requirements.
- All platform‑specific engine deployment requirements are met.
What to do next
After confirming that your environment is supported:
- Review the Standard deployment architecture.
- Follow the appropriate platform‑specific guidance in Deployment.
