Action required: The Continuous Data UI, API, and CLI are scheduled for end of life. Review the latest migration guidance and start planning your transition to Data Control Tower.
On new engine installations of 2026.5.0.0 and later, the Admin UI opens directly to the Performance Dashboard, and the Manage, Resources, and System menus are unavailable. Engines upgraded from an earlier version keep full Admin UI access. This restriction cannot be changed by customers; contact Delphix Support if you need it lifted temporarily.

Refer to the Upgrade matrix before upgrading. Review the release notes and version-specific documentation for your source version, target version, and every intermediate version you upgrade through for prerequisites and conditions.
For upgrades from version 6.0.0.0 or later to a compatible version, contacting Delphix Support is not required.
Upgrade images for target versions 6.0.2.0 and later include upgrade pre-checks. Use the latest target-version image because checks may be updated between releases.
Upgrades from version 2025.3.0.* or older to version 2025.4.0.* or newer require an Upgrade and Reboot and VDB downtime.
After you upload and verify the upgrade image, review any warnings in the Impact of the upgrade section and schedule downtime for the selected upgrade type. Then apply the upgrade.
-
Log in to the Delphix Setup application.
-
In the Software Version panel, click View.
-
On the left-hand side, select the version to which you will be upgrading.
-
Click Apply Upgrade. In the Confirm Upgrade dialog, choose Upgrade Only or Upgrade and Reboot.
Review Impact of the upgrade. Verification runs again if unresolved CRITICAL check results exist or the version was last verified more than one hour ago. Resolve every CRITICAL result and resolve or explicitly ignore each WARNING result before the software upgrade can proceed. INFORMATIONAL results do not require action. Expand More info to review additional details and check for environmental problems.
Review the impact of the selected upgrade type, then click Apply to start the upgrade.
-
The upgrade will run in the background. You can view its progress in the Action sidebar. Only the current system admin user can view the progress.
-
The status of the upgrade will be visible on the screen - if the upgrade is successful, the page will be redirected to the login view.
After a successful upgrade, the Delphix Engine automatically removes the upgrade image that was used, along with any previously applied upgrade images. Only upgrade images that have been uploaded but not yet applied will continue to appear in the UI. Upgrade images are stored on the root filesystem, not the domain0 data storage pool. This ensures that upgrade-related files do not consume space dedicated to datasets.
An Upgrade and Reboot runs in two stages. First, the software upgrade runs as an Upgrade Only, and the admin, masking, and setup services restart before the system reboot. The Delphix Engine then quiesces datasets and reboots. This runs the dataset-quiesce logic from the new software and helps minimize downtime for Continuous Data VDBs.
Failure to quiesce a dataset
If the Delphix Engine cannot quiesce a dataset during an Upgrade and Reboot, the upgrade pauses and displays a banner at the top of the Upgrade page.
While the upgrade is paused, datasets that have been quiesced remain unavailable until you cancel the reboot portion or continue the upgrade.
To review the list of failures, open the Report tab:
Each report row includes an info link, source, host, quiesce failure, and suggested action. Select the info link for additional details.
The datasets listed in the report were identified as having issues that prevented them from being quiesced, and may not be available after the reboot is complete. Review the messages in the report and take the suggested corrective actions.
If you think that the errors may be the result of transient failures, you can click Retry upgrade to try again. Otherwise, it is recommended that you manually quiesce datasets that are still running. To do so:
-
Use a different browser or use an incognito window to go to the Delphix management application.
Failure to do so might result in losing the current session and you may not be able to return to the Upgrade pause screen. -
Either resolve issues such as a wrong password or stop the dataset using Force Disable.
-
In the original browser or window, click Retry upgrade to try applying the upgrade again.
If any listed datasets are critical and you cannot resolve the configuration errors, click Cancel to cancel the reboot portion of the upgrade. The software upgrade has already been applied, and the engine is running the new version, so canceling the reboot does not revert the upgrade.
Alternatively, if you accept the consequences of the quiesce failures and want to continue with the reboot:
-
Click Continue upgrade. This will attempt to quiesce all datasets which have not yet been quiesced, but will not pause on failures.
This may result in datasets remaining unavailable after the Delphix Engine restarts, since the underlying storage that backs the datasets will be unreachable during the reboot. This may cause the databases or applications to failover or transition to a failure state, thus requiring administrator intervention to recover. -
Review the messages in the report and take the suggested corrective actions.
