Delphix supports migrating a virtual CDB (vCDB) and its only virtual PDB (vPDB) together to a new environment via CLI.

Pre-requisites

  • The vCDB must have only one vPDB.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Delphix Command Line Interface as an administrator: ssh admin@YOUR_ENGINE

  2. Disable the vPDB.

    delphix> /source
    delphix source> select MYVPDB
    delphix source 'MYVPDB'> disable
delphix source 'MYVPDB' disable *> commit
        Dispatched job JOB-86
        SOURCE_DISABLE job started for "MYVPDB".
        Disabling virtual database "MYVPDB".
        Unexporting storage containers.
        Virtual database "MYVPDB" disabled.
SOURCE_DISABLE job for "MYVPDB" completed successfully.
  3. If TDE is enabled for the vPDB, complete this step. Otherwise, go to step 4.

    1. Copy the TDE wallet folder from the source host to the target host, ensuring that the folder path remains the same path on the target host:

      scp -r /work/MYCDB/tde oracle@targethost:/work/MYCDB/tde
In an RAC environment, you must share the target folder across all nodes in the target environment.
    2. Copy the vPDB TDE artifacts from the source host to the target host, maintaining the same path under TDE keystores root folder:

      scp -r /work/oracle_tde_keystores/MYVPDB_Untitled_1e05c5c7-2f44-4592-bfa9-7dff06db3143
      oracle@targethost: /work/oracle_tde_keystores/MYVPDB_Untitled_1e05c5c7-2f44-4592-bfa9-7dff06db3143
In an RAC environment, you must share the target folder across all nodes in the target environment.
  4. Change the environment user and repository (ORACLE_HOME) for the vPDB to the appropriate user from the new host.

    delphix sourceconfig> select MYVPDB
    delphix sourceconfig 'MYVPDB'> update
delphix sourceconfig 'MYVPDB' update *> set repository=my-target-host-1/'/u01/app/oracle/product/19.0.0.0/dbhome_1'
delphix sourceconfig 'MYVPDB' update *> set environmentUser=my-target-host-1/oracle
delphix sourceconfig 'MYVPDB' update *> commit
        Dispatched job JOB-101
        SOURCE_CONFIG_UPDATE job started for "MYVPDB".
SOURCE_CONFIG_UPDATE job for "MYVPDB" completed successfully.
  5. Change the environment user and repository (ORACLE_HOME) for the vCDB to the appropriate user from the new host. This must match the settings in step 4.

    delphix sourceconfig> /sourceconfig
    delphix sourceconfig> select MYCDB
    delphix sourceconfig 'MYCDB'> update
delphix sourceconfig 'MYCDB' update *> set repository=my-target-host-1/'/u01/app/oracle/product/19.0.0.0/dbhome_1'
delphix sourceconfig 'MYCDB' update *> set environmentUser=my-target-host-1/oracle
delphix sourceconfig 'MYCDB' update *> commit
    	Dispatched job JOB-102
    	SOURCE_CONFIG_UPDATE job started for "MYCDB".
SOURCE_CONFIG_UPDATE job for "MYCDB" completed successfully.
  6. Enable the vPDB.

    delphix sourceconfig 'MYCDB'> /source
    delphix source> select MYVPDB
    delphix source 'MYVPDB'> enable
delphix source 'MYVPDB' enable *> commit
    	Dispatched job JOB-103
    	SOURCE_ENABLE job started for "MYVPDB".
    	Enabling dataset "MYVPDB".
Exporting storage containers from the Delphix Engine.
    	Mounting datasets.
Mounting filesystems for the virtual database instance "1".
    	Starting virtual database.
Starting instance 1 on virtual database "MYCDB".
Virtual database "MYCDB" was successfully started.
    	Mounting datasets.
Mounting filesystems for the virtual database instance "1".
    	Starting virtual database.
Starting instance 1 on virtual database "MYVPDB".
    	Plugging in Oracle pluggable database.
    	Opening Oracle pluggable database.
Setting OMF destination for Oracle pluggable database.
    	Enabling Oracle instances.
Checking Oracle pluggable database plugin violations.
Virtual database "MYVPDB" was successfully started.
    	Dataset "MYVPDB" enabled.
SOURCE_ENABLE job for "MYVPDB" completed successfully.
  7. The migration is now complete and the vCDB/vPDB is running on the new host.
